I’ve long had an affinity for visual images—in art and the natural world—and derive pleasure and satisfaction in generating nature’s organic sensibility into the material, physical world of a home.
I’m told I have a natural talent and flair for home styling. To me, it’s an instinctual—and a bit compulsive—need for order, organic composition, and visual integrity.
Here are a few elements and enhancements I can offer as I style or re-style your rooms:
I work alone and am not affiliated with any shops, though I can recommend some for specific needs. I don’t shop for you or draw up plans. I simply work with what you have, what you already love. I start with a free consultation in your home so I can see and hear what you want. Even if you’re not sure what needs to be changed, I’ll work with you to figure it out.
My job is to intuit what can be done with your “things,” and then do it. I will work in your home for as long as you wish (two hour minimum to start) and simply transform the space. I follow up with a hard copy list of creative suggestions—things you can do yourself, things to buy or find, what colors to paint the walls, and so forth.
I am available in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles and Orange County

A visit from Kathryn is a better payoff than any Botox or Restylane can offer as your home will benefit from her eye, seemingly able, in an effortless endeavor, to transform a room with small yet significant adjustments and ideas about what the room may need in terms of a piece of art or a repositioning of existing pieces. She reminds you of the need for change and is blessed with exquisite taste. Lest she sound all business, she is funny and able to make a visit an adventure paired with laughter.

Kathryn Abajian has been my to-go design person for years! When I have any decorating questions or design problems, she always has ideas that work. The best idea she had, one that two architects didn’t think of, was to remove a small wall between my kitchen and the dining room. It changed everything, opening up the space so it’s more pleasing visually and more versatile. Kathryn suggested I keep a antique butler’s stand I’d had for years instead of sending it off to a consignment shop as I planned, saying “It’s a good transition piece and it balances your kitchen island.” She suggested the grouping of black and white Staffordshire plates above the butler’s stand and now I love the whole composition. Though she doesn’t often shop with clients, she agreed to a trip to the showrooms in San Francisco where, in no time at all, she found the perfect crystal wall sconces to complement my French mirror and then a Chinese chest to use in front of my sofa. I really depend on her designer’s eye.
